I was on this great old vessel for a month in October 1957. I was sent down to the River Gal where she was laid up to help prepare her and take her to Briton Ferry for breaking up.

I joined the San Felix at Sunderland in March, 1953. I was a deck cadet and this was my first ship. She was in drydock for major repairs but I had to live aboard under somewhat appalling conditions. She took a furthur 2 months to complete repairs/maintenence and the whole scene was totally alien to me as I had lived life in a somewhat sheltered background in Devonshire and had no idea of what to expect. However, the time spent in Sunderland was fun, even allowing for the living conditions, and my princely wage of 7 pounds 10 shillings a month. We finally sailed for the Persian Gulf on 14 May,1953 when my apprenticeship formally started. I received no credit for the time served in the dry-dock as I was not signed on until departure! I stayed with Eagle Oil until they were formally taken over by Shell in,I believe, 1959. I was Second Mate when I left and I continued with a life at sea until 1966 when I emigrated to Canada where I still reside.

I was only married for 1 month when i joined the 'Felix' at Liverpool & was away for 11 months, but we are still maried 53 years later. The longest passage we did between ports was 33 days doing just 5
I joined Eagle Oil Tankers in January 1956 on the San Vulfrano after 4months we dry docked & I joined the San Velino when returning to the U.K I got Married had 1 Months leave & joined the Felix in October at Birkenhead & was away for 11 Months! In this time one of our passages took 33 days & we were doing just 5-7 knots!I paid off in Rotterdam & after 3 weeks leave I rejoined her in the river Fal & took her to the scrap yard.I was next given a brand new ship the San Gregorio which i joined at Vickers yard in barrow , we did trials reaching a maximum speed of 22 knots off the tail of the bank on the Clyde before sailing to Belfast to The Thompson dry dock, after dry docking we sailed for the Clyde again to let the builders off, we then sailed to the Persian Golf via the suiz canal.Anyone out there from these ships . when joining the Gregorio I met Jimmy Wild of the ' Ohio' of Malta.
