My father Kenneth N. Kennedy sailed as 3rd mate and was a survivor of her sinking on 23rd Feb. 1943. He had just celebrated his 21st birthday on 22nd Feb, but never got to eat the cake baked by his mum! He was rescued by the escort vessel HMS Totland and met up with some of her crew in the 1990's, becoming an honorary member of their association. He wrote a treatise about the events of the sinking and this is now filed in the German records, as they were very helpful with his investigation. Dad never saw any of his crewmates after they got back to England, but he did meet Greg Roskill, the son of the DEMS gunner. |
