I joined the Storm Petrel in Dec '98 and stayed until June '01. I was my first role after Maritime College and sea time. We went to dry dock at Nagasaki in Nov '99. A memorable event was when we experienced an earth quake at sea. It was after leaving Tokyo Bay one Sunday afternoon (I would have to check the actual date). During my time we were managed by ALSOC. We were the crew that started abseiling to paint the domes. I enjoyed my time aboard and gained valuable experience. However, as above, it was my first job and after two and a half years it was time to move on.
