'Oscilla' refitted at Malta and had flume stabilisation fitted for trial. Two sets of wing tanks and their centre tank were made common across the width of the vessel by the cutting out of selected sections of bulkhead steel. Bilge keels were also removed. Vessel made trials in Gulf of Aden to see how the system worked in heavy weather. Principle was essentially good but synchronisation was out of step at times resulting in extreme rolling. Returned to malta and had bulkhead sections replaced and bilge keels refitted. |
