In the 1950s and 1960s , Oil tankers were the ships to avoid ,or so I was told by older shipmates. `they forget to come home` and `shanghaid` were the bits of advice thrown in my direction. In spite of which I did elect to serve on 2 x Eagle Oil and 1 x Shell tanker.
All of which were enjoyable experiences , and the accomodation and food were superior to most other ships , As for the long drags at sea .they were ideal for saving up a bit of money ready for the `eventual` return to the UK and a good long leave.
Many happy memories
All the best B Jim Parker
