05/26/2006 - 08:44 Mention of Curacao today brings back memories of the 1960s when I passed through Willemstad on various Shell tankers to the loading berths then out again to various destinations. I've seen pictures of the fine road bridge that now spans the waterway, the Queen Juliana, opened 1974. Does any one remember its ill-fated forerunner? I don't know if it had a name but it collapsed during construction about 1966 and Ibelieve there were some casualties. I never found out the full story, but passing through on the HIMA shortly after, I took some pictures of the wreckage as it lay alongside. Does anyone have any more details of this unfortunate accident?
06/11/2005 - 08:54 In response to Barney Boylan's query. I was on board the Hygromia on several trips to Vietnam in 1968 and remember the incident involving the Amastra. There was also another Shell tanker which had its wheelhouse blown away in a VC attack about that time. Has anyone any details regarding that one?
